The mission of the Hyde Park Center for Older Adults is to enable people over age 55 to maintain optimal health, enhance their quality of life and live independently as long as possible, while promoting a positive image of aging that makes use of the skills, talents and experiences of older people.

We strive to help people achieve the best possible outcomes in

  • Mobility
  • Companionship and high quality of life
  • Support system and aid with independent living
  • Good nutrition
  • Health and wellness
  • Learning and activities
  • Contributions to society

The Center was founded in 1974 by a committee of churches and neighborhood activists who saw the need for a center to support the independence of older adults. From a single social worker working out of her car, the Center has grown to a staff of 11 experienced, dedicated employees based in an historic building in the heart of Hyde Park.

2009 survey results from our members:

  • 90% said they would not have been able to get the services they needed without the Center’s social work staff.
  • 92% reported improvements of at least 50% in access by using the Center’s transportation.
  • 90% believe the meals help them stay healthy.
  • 94% feel better about their lives since they started taking part in wellness activities, and 87% believe they are aging well.
